MPA Annual Recap + Revere Award Winners

June 18, 2018

The MPA would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the publishers, speakers and industry professionals who were able to join us for our Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon.

Over lunch the 2018 Paul Revere Awards for Graphic Excellence were presented by Frank J. Oteri of New Music USA. We would like to recognize both Alfred Music and Theodore Presser for their outstanding work this year, taking home six awards each; this means that each score they submitted received an award!

A complete list of winners can be found here.

This year the MPA honored two individuals for their tireless work in support of publishers and composers. For sponsoring the landmark Music Modernization Act, Congressman Doug Collins received the Arnold Broido Award for Copyright Advocacy, presented by MPA President Sean Patrick Flahaven.

The MPA also honored friend and dear colleague Charles Slater of J.W. Pepper with the 2018 MPA Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by MPA Legal Counsel James M. Kendrick; MPA Board member and J.W. Pepper Chief Marketing Officer Kathleen Fernandes accepted the award on his behalf.

After lunch, Erich Carey, Senior Counsel to NMPA, provided an update on the MPA/NMPA anti-piracy efforts.

Events continued as MPA Administrator Brittain Ashford hosted a panel on branding and how publishers can build their customer base through social media. Panel speakers included Nicole Capatasto of Matt Ross PR, writer and performer Joe Iconis, and Alfred Music Marketing VP Alex Ordoñez.

Daniel Spreadbury also presented Dorico, the new music notation software from Steinberg.

The day concluded with a cocktail hour featuring live music from the John Murchison Trio.
